June 6, 2012: VU-MultiCultural event

Have you ever dreamt to travel around the world in ONE day?! You don’t need to buy a ticket or book a flight, just attend the VU Multicultural event on the 6th of June organized by the Centre for International Cooperation VU and studentplatform dialoog@vu.nl in cooperation with the Network Institute and the Institute for Environmental Studies VU! This is your chance to get to meet people from different countries, taste their food, listen to their music and experience their culture!

July 9-13, 2012: Web Science summer school

The Network institute is involved in the organization of a Summer School on Web Science. The Summer School will take place from July 9 to July 13, 2012 and be held at the Lorentz Center, Leiden, The Netherlands.

The area of Web Science is an exciting new interdisciplinary research area that takes the Web as the scientific phenomenon of study. Working in Web Science requires a broad view of the scientific playing field, with a need to combine a range of scientific skills from different disciplines.

April 23rd

NI supported Foroba Blon project draws lot of media attention

A joint initiative from the Web Foundation (Geneva, Switzerland), the VU University Network Institute (Amsterdam, Netherlands), and Sahel Eco (Bamako, Mali), the Foroba Blon is based on new innovative voice technologies that enable people with the simplest of phones in developing countries to access Web-based information, independently of their reading skills, their language or their education level.

Netwerk Instituut leden scoren dubbel succes bij VENI beurzen

De jonge Netwerk Instituut onderzoekers Wouter van Atteveldt (FSW, Communicatiewetenschappen) en Alexei Sharpanskykh (FEW, Informatica) hebben beiden een prestigieuse NWO VENI beurs weten binnen te slepen.

Beiden zijn gepromoveerd aan de VU bij leden van het Netwerk Instituut (van Atteveldt als gedeelde promotie tussen Sociale en Exacte Wetenschappen).

April 11th

Educational meeting KNAW assistants

On Friday the 15th of April from 13:30-16:00, there will be an educational meeting especially for all KNAW-assistants. However, other people are welcome as well. The meeting will take place in room C-638 in the W&N building.

The topic of the meeting will be "Social Network Analysis" and will be presented by Gerhard van de Bunt.

Symposium May 10, 2011

On Tuesday May 10, the Network Institute (the long-term collaboration between groups from the Department of Computer Science, the Department of Mathematics, the Faculty of Social Sciences and the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration) organizes a one-day symposium to strengthen the ties between its members and to stimulate further collaboration. Read further for the program and registration. The symposium is held in the main building of the VU University, in the Auditorium and near the Aula.

April 6th

First Workshop on Green Software @VU

Tuesday, 12 April, Green IT Amsterdam and the Software Improvement Group organize the workshop Green Software. The VU with the Network Institute is hosting it, starting at 15.30 and finishing with a network drink at 18.00. As there are a few seats left, it is still possible to register for this event, where SIG’s framework, its application by Centric and the impact of software on energy usage by Hyves will be discussed by representatives of these organizations.
